Meow!

Ruby has become quite the face painter. I just got her some new watercolor crayons and they are excellent for face painting. I have never ever seen Wade sit so still. He will let her work on his face, sitting silently for however long required to get the best kitty face. It is one of the cutest things I have ever seen and it makes me so glad that they have each other.

I am sad to say that she did the whole family but I did not manage to get a family portrait. Greg was a tiger (he kind of looked like he was one of those crazy face painted guys at a sporting event), I was a bunny and she was a kitty of course.

More Crib Fun.....

This week was all about putting all the stuffed animals we have into Wade's crib and then playing in it for hours. I am not sure which task was more exciting, loading all the animals in or playing with them once they were in. Ruby, or course, had some strict rules about how it was all to be done and Wade keep getting reprimanded for throwing animals out. Here is a little video of the action.

Ruby

Today, Ruby and I were playing pet store. She named her dog Rainbow Jewelry Infection.
And then she named my spider Sally Cinnamon Toast.

Tuesday-isms

The following are my favorite Ruby and Wade-isms of today:

Wade and I brought some gum to school when we picked up Ruby today. She offered a piece to her teacher by saying, "Teacher Malin, does your mom let you have gum?"

Wade's new catch phrase is "not right now". When you tell him it is time for a diaper change he says, "Not right now Mommy". Same goes for naptime.

Just chillin' in the crib, being kitties of course.

Dimitri

This is our kitty Dimitri. He is about 12 years old. Ruby has been really excited lately about making kitty collars for our whole family out of pop beads. Everyday she and Wade pretend that they are cats. Yesterday, Ruby decided that Dimitri needed a collar too. As you can see, it is quite lovely. With a little coaching from me she managed to put it on him all by herself without him running away or scratching her. He wore it without complaint for almost the whole day. They have come along way in their relationship. He used to run the second she came around or start swinging his giant kitty paws at her. It makes me so happy that they have become friends.
The other day, as she was running to the restroom, she stopped for a second to scratch him behind his ears.

Random acts of kindness...

This morning Wade and I went to Trader Joe's after I dropped Ruby at school. Trader Joe's is great with the kids because ,if you don't already know, they give balloons to the kids.
Anyway, Wade and I were getting into the car and he let his balloon go (on purpose). An employee saw this happen and before I knew it he was back at our car with a brand new blue balloon! After he gave the balloon to Wade, he then put all my groceries in the car for me. Oh yeah, and then put my cart away for me. I don't know his name but I do know that I love him.
I know that we have lived here for over a year now but some days I still can't get over how nice people are.
ps The second we got out of the car at home it popped. Wade thought it was the funniest thing ever.

Old Friends

My friend Carrie and her daughter Stella came to visit us a couple of weeks ago. Carrie and I were pregnant with both our girls and then our boys at the same time. Ruby and Stella have been friends since their beginings. This a photo of them way back when they were babies.

and this is them now!
It was so much fun to have them here. Of course I selfishly wanted them to stay forever and pretend like we don't live so far apart. I love Portland but it is really hard to be so far away from a lot of the people that we love most.

This is me and Carrie and Wadey.
Wade loved Carrie. He asked for her for two days after they were gone. I think it broke his heart to see them go, or wait maybe it was mine.

Dance Fever

We just uploaded a bunch of old movies and this one makes me laugh. Wade and Ruby have some new dance moves! Ruby has a new fascination with Gwen Stefani. Uncle Kenny has been suppling her with Gwen dolls from his toy company. She says "this song is by my doll Gwen" when she hears it on the radio.

Dutch Babies!!

So, after waiting for over an hour at our favorite breakfast place for one of these, I decided I am going to give it a try at home. I had to buy a cast iron skillet, then I had to season it. I had no idea about this seasoning thing. Apparently it is because I was too cheap to buy the pre-seasoned ones. Anyway, I found this
recipe. It was really yummy and super easy and it only took maybe 25 start to finish! The only thing is I thought it tasted a little like pan.... will that change as I keep using it?
I guess I will have to keep making them to find that out.

Rainbows

This past week was full of some really crazy weather. It snowed, hailed, rained and was sunny a couple of different times all in one day. I found this rainbow out our playroom window. It was so beautiful. I tried to explain to Ruby that there were probably pots of gold at the end of each side- I guess she is a little too young for all that yet.
I am looking forward to some warmer weather soon. Winter sure lasts a long time here.
